From the initial customer request, each job is guided by an individual engineer who has a thorough working knowledge of all facets of the project, as well as applicable codes and standards. Once we determine customer requirements, the expansion joint design is transferred to the drafting department where a CAD-generated drawing is developed, qualified weld procedures are established, and quality assurance guidelines are identified.

Each contract requires a complete product drawing and bill of material to be furnished to the customer for review, approval or record, as applicable.

Expedited Deliveries

A portion of Badger Industries’ total production capacity is reserved to service critical delivery commitments like customer breakdowns. 

In emergency situations, metal bellows can be “rush” formed for immediate shipment. 

Standard expansion joints can be shipped 24 to 48 hours after an order is received while special expansion joints, such as hinge, gimbal, and universal type, can be shipped as early as 7 to 15 days.

Badger Industries' accumulated engineering experience within our staff allows for a streamlines design and applications assistance process with all customers. 

In ensuring the proper use and installation of expansion joints, the Badger engineering staff is routinely consulted by major users of expansion joints in:

  • Power generation
  • Petroleum
  • Petro-chemica
  • Steel industries
  • Heat exchanger and gas turbine manufacturers
  • OEMs
  • Consulting/engineering firms.

Bellows material should be selected by customers in order to ensure a proper fit of material to their specific media and service conditions.  

Badger's standard bellows material is SA 240 Type 321 Stainless Steel. 

Other types of material are available upon request, including:

  • 300 series, 400 series, and duplex stainless steels
  • Alloys 200, 400, 600, 625, 800H, 825, 20-Cb-3, C-276, C-22, and other high-nickel alloys.

All expansion joint bellows designs are verified by a computerized stress analysis confirmed by hundreds of prototype tests. 

Each bellows type has been qualified by cycle, squirm, and burst tests, from which S-N curves, minimum stability and pressure capacity criteria have been confirmed. 

This analysis is provided for all ASME Section VIII Designs and is available upon request for all bellows designs.

Badger takes pride in its continuous Research and Development Program.  At Badger, we know substantial prototype testing is essential to establish correlation of the various mathematical stress analyses.
